Irã corre o risco de perder a Copa do Mundo 2026 por crise geopolítica

Questões de segurança e tensões internacionais ameaçam a participação da seleção no torneio global

O Irã está no centro de um dos debates mais intensos do esporte mundial. Embora sua seleção tenha garantido a classificação para a Copa do Mundo FIFA 2026, que será realizada nos Estados Unidos, México e Canadá, declarações recentes do governo iraniano abriram a possibilidade de uma ausência histórica, algo que não se via desde meados do século XX no futebol internacional.

O Ministro do Esporte e Juventude afirmou que “sob nenhuma circunstância nossa seleção participará se não houver garantia de segurança e respeito à nossa soberania”, gerando incerteza entre federações esportivas e torcedores em todo o mundo.

O Irã se classificou liderando seu grupo nas eliminatórias asiáticas, com um recorde de vitórias e uma defesa sólida, mas a situação geopolítica alterou o caminho de seus jogadores, que agora enfrentam uma decisão com consequências além dos estádios.

Analistas estimam que, se o Irã se retirar oficialmente, a FIFA poderia impor multas entre USD 300.000 e mais de USD 1.000.000, dependendo do momento da decisão e das justificativas fornecidas pela Federação Iraniana de Futebol.

Além das penalidades financeiras, a equipe poderia ser temporariamente excluída de torneios oficiais, afetando as aspirações de novas gerações de jogadores que se desenvolveram em ligas europeias e asiáticas.

Historicamente, ausências após a classificação são extremamente raras. O exemplo mais citado ocorreu em 1950, quando a seleção da Índia se retirou da Copa do Mundo no Brasil por motivos logísticos e financeiros, estabelecendo um precedente quase único na história moderna do futebol.

A situação se complica ainda mais devido à crescente base de fãs globais do Irã: segundo estatísticas internacionais, seu engajamento online durante eventos de futebol aumentou cerca de 42 % entre 2018 e 2025, superando outras seleções asiáticas.

Do ponto de vista organizacional, a ausência do Irã obrigaria a FIFA a ajustar a programação e a composição do Grupo G, onde estava previsto jogar três partidas em diferentes sedes. Isso implica não apenas consequências esportivas, mas também impactos logísticos e econômicos para as cidades anfitriãs que esperavam torcedores iranianos.

Outro aspecto crítico é o efeito no ranking mundial. Se o Irã se retirar, perderia pontos importantes no Ranking FIFA, afetando sua posição global nos próximos ciclos de torneios oficiais, como a Copa da Ásia e as eliminatórias para a Copa do Mundo de 2030.

O debate também provocou reações na comunidade internacional: especialistas em direito esportivo afirmam que a decisão, embora influenciada por razões políticas e de segurança, poderia estabelecer um precedente sobre como conflitos internacionais podem afetar diretamente calendários esportivos globais e a participação nacional.

Enquanto alguns setores do Irã defendem priorizar a presença esportiva como ponte para o diálogo cultural, outros afirmam que a segurança e a dignidade nacional não podem ser comprometidas, mesmo que isso signifique abrir mão de um dos eventos esportivos mais icônicos do mundo.

A evolução dessa história será acompanhada de perto não apenas por torcedores de futebol, mas também por governos, organizações internacionais e veículos de mídia, enquanto a Copa do Mundo 2026 se torna um ponto de inflexão em que a linha entre esporte e política se torna cada vez mais tênue.
