El Parque Nacional de la Chapada Diamantina, creado en 1985 y administrado por el ICMBio, protege más de 152.000 hectáreas de la cadena montañosa de la Serra do Sincorá, en el estado de Bahía. Su territorio abarca fragmentos de los ecosistemas de la Mata Atlántica, el Cerrado y la Caatinga, y alberga cañones, cuevas y cursos de agua que han convertido a la región en un polo de ecoturismo en Brasil. El parque fue establecido para conservar esta diversidad ecológica y cultural y hoy funciona como un centro de investigación, turismo de aventura y comunidades tradicionales que mantienen prácticas locales.

Qué Hace Único al Parque Nacional de la Chapada Diamantina

La Chapada es famosa por la Cachoeira da Fumaça, una cascada de casi 340 metros cuyo nombre (“humo”) proviene del fenómeno por el cual el viento evapora las gotas antes de que toquen el suelo; otra particularidad es la coexistencia de tres biomas en una sola unidad de conservación, lo que genera microclimas muy variados en distancias cortas y paisajes que van desde mesetas rocosas hasta pozas de aguas cristalinas.

Desde Lençóis, la ciudad base más desarrollada para los visitantes, se organizan caminatas a miradores (como el Morro do Pai Inácio), excursiones a la cascada Cachoeira da Fumaça y visitas a cuevas y pozas como Pratinha, donde además de nadar se puede hacer snorkel y kayak. En la ciudad, vale la pena probar la gastronomía bahiana en restaurantes locales recomendados por guías y reseñas de viajeros, donde los platos principales suelen tener precios de económicos a moderados (entre USD 8 y USD 20). Durante la temporada cultural alta, festivales regionales con música barroca y ritmos afrobrasileños animan las plazas y bares de Lençóis. Muchos tours incluyen almuerzos en fazendas (haciendas rurales) con platos típicos, cuyos precios varían según la actividad.

Opciones para Seguir Explorando

Además de las cascadas y cuevas dentro del parque, pueblos cercanos como Mucugê y Palmeiras ofrecen sitios históricos, pequeñas iglesias coloniales y museos locales; atracciones privadas como la Fazenda Pratinha cobran entradas o actividades que oscilan entre USD 12 y USD 21. La mayoría de los miradores y senderos del parque son gratuitos, aunque algunas actividades guiadas o áreas privadas tienen costos adicionales.

La Mejor Forma de Llegar

La distancia por carretera entre Salvador (capital del estado) y Lençóis es de aproximadamente 410–420 km; el viaje en autobús dura entre 6 y 8 horas, según la ruta y las conexiones. Desde Salvador también hay traslados privados o vuelos regionales a Lençóis (estos últimos son la opción más costosa). Las opciones de alojamiento van desde hostales económicos entre USD 15 y USD 35 por noche hasta posadas y hoteles boutique entre USD 70 y USD 150; en promedio, un hotel de 3 estrellas suele costar entre USD 40 y USD 100 por noche, dependiendo de la temporada. Para desplazarse localmente, lo más práctico es contratar guías o traslados hasta el inicio de los senderos; muchas rutas requieren buen calzado y, para caminatas más largas (como el descenso hasta la base de la Fumaça), se recomienda un guía certificado. La mejor época para hacer trekking y senderismo en caminos secos suele ser la estación seca, de mayo a octubre; la temporada de lluvias (noviembre a abril) eleva el nivel de los ríos, pero dificulta los senderos.

Consejos Prácticos y de Seguridad

Viaja con seguro de aventura, lleva dinero en efectivo (moneda local) para zonas sin terminales POS, investiga las rutas y contrata un guía para caminatas largas; respeta las áreas protegidas, no nades en condiciones adversas y evita tomar fotos en bordes sin protección. Lleva siempre agua, sombrero y chaqueta impermeable; la señal de telefonía móvil es intermitente fuera de las zonas urbanas.
