Vancouver es una ciudad ubicada en el estado de Washington, justo al norte del río Columbia y frente a Portland, en Oregón. Aunque muchas personas la confunden con la famosa ciudad canadiense de Vancouver, esta ciudad estadounidense tiene su propia identidad y una historia profundamente ligada a la exploración del noroeste del Pacífico. Fue establecida oficialmente en 1857, pero su importancia comenzó décadas antes, cuando en 1825 la Hudson’s Bay Company fundó el histórico Fuerte Vancouver como centro de comercio de pieles. Desde entonces, el sitio evolucionó de un puesto comercial a un enclave militar y más tarde a un centro residencial y empresarial conectado con el área metropolitana de Portland.
